On Thursday, October 6th, 2016, we held our first consumer seminar at Don Hall’s Factory Steakhouse. The purpose of this event was to provide an opportunity for hearing aid users and new hearing aid candidates to learn more about current hearing aid technology, as well as experience the difference in hearing performance with newer devices compared to their current devices. We asked for our patients to come into our office the day of the event to be fit with new technology, and then to use that technology during the presentation that evening.
Not only were these patients fit with new instruments, but we also collected data (word recognition in quiet and within the presence of competing noise) to measure improvement in their hearing potential. The results were extremely positive. The average improvement for previous users in noise was 34%, meaning they were able to discriminate 34% more words within noise with newer technology than their current hearing instruments. For new users, as expected, they also had a tremendous amount of improvement compared to unaided scores. The following table reviews our findings:
